Mark Saturday February 17th (this was for 2007, expect about the same for 2008) on your calendars! The annual Community Workshops, sponsored by The Palouse Folklore Society, will take place in mid February th at the Russell School in Moscow. This event is absolutely free. As I write this in early November, there are already a number of classes confirmed. John Watkinson will teach penny whistle, Suvia will lead classes in both round singing and shape note singing, and Paul Smith will teach an Irish fiddle class. Brian Gill will teach songwriting, Miriam Kent will lead a children’s class in folksinging, and Paul Lyman will teach a bluegrass class. There will be music jams and a family dance. Dan Maher (of Inland Folk fame) will be there, and also members of the musical group Potatohead. This is just a sample of what the day will offer. And then in the evening the regularly scheduled contra dance will take place at the Moscow 1912 building. If you have a talent you feel you would like to share with the public, contact a member of the Palouse Folklore Society board, and we will see if we can fit you into the schedule. But for sure come on down that day and join in the fun. Some classes are more suited to children; some just for adults, and some for all ages, but there will be something for everyone. |
